flight attendantFlight attendants have seen most of the world. At the drop of a hat they are setting off to the next city, to the next state, or the next country. This sounds amazing right? Wrong. Flight attendants never get on a schedule. Flight attendants go without sleep. Flight attendants never have any sense of stability. And not only that, they have to always be there to please; to please me and you.

They always have to have a smile on their face, they have to be constantly customer service oriented, and regardless of how many “Fuck offs” they get, they have to be cordial. This can cause anyone stress. Add on the fact that they don’t get to go home at the end of the night and you have the perfect storm. And in the perfect storm what can flight attendants do to help calm themselves? Drink or use drugs. Primarily, benzodiazepines. This is why so many flight attendants end up in rehab. In order to handle coping people like me and you, they take relaxing drugs or they get tipsy before a flight. Woopsy daisy.

If you don’t believe us just type in drunken flight attendant and there are plenty of sad but entertaining stories of how planes were grounded due to unruly behavior, not by passengers, but by the attendants.

In fact one of the best stories we read was how a flight attendant lost his marbles over the intercom system. Telling people that he had fu***** had it. He then deployed the inflatable ramp, opened the exit door, grabbed his bags and slid on down. The authorities later on arrested him at his home. After enough rude customers and enough alcohol he lost it. Today he is in recovery and mentioned a few things about AA and NA. I think I even saw that he had a job as a flight attendant again. Which is great. Best flight attendant ever!

Anyways, it is true and sad that many flight attendants need addiction help but they never get it. And if they do their only option is the flight attendant rehab specifically for flight attendants. What needs to be addressed is not the fact that these individuals are flight attendants but the fact that they are alcoholics. If they are alcoholics they need the best treatment possible. They need to settle down and get to work on addressing their drinking and drug use. And when they get sober it is guaranteed they will have some pretty amazing stories to tell.

If you or someone you love is a flight attendant and needs drug addiction help please don’t hesitate to call us for a free assessment. We can help.
